Frost forms on the suction fitting at the compressor, compressor may slip belt or temporarily lock up.

Cause |
|
This is caused by refrigerant pooling or flooding that still has the potential to cool right at the compressor inlet. This is not a good thing due to the risk of slugging the compressor. The cause is most likely due to a expansion valve not functioning properly or the system is very overcharged.

Solution |
|
Remove excess refrigerant, clean the mating sufaces between the expansion valve bulb and evaporator inlet tube or replace the expansion valve.
